Tenders open today for a new disability housing project in Brisbane, bringing jobs and more accommodation options to Brisbane’s northside.
Acting Disability Services Minister Mark Ryan said the tender would lead to more housing options for Queenslanders with disability and create opportunities for local building contractors.
“This new housing project will enable three people with high physical support needs the opportunity to live as independently as possible,” he said.
“It will be also allow them to live in their community, close to family and friends.
“Plus it will create more jobs for Brisbane, where they are always in demand.”
The accommodation will include three bedrooms with ensuites and a carer’s room.
The tender is part of the Queensland Government’s $3.3 million funding commitment to delivering more housing options to Queenslanders with disability.
“So far the funding has created 12 accommodation places with an additional five places available with the remaining funding,” he said.
“We are committed to supplying more accessible residential options for people with disability.
“Everyone needs a safe and secure home before they can truly live the life they choose.”
Mr Ryan said the Palaszczuk Government had recently launched state-wide consultation on Queensland’s new disability plan – ‘Towards an all abilities Queensland’.
“We’re asking Queenslanders to have their say on how we can drive change and break down barriers to ensure people with disability feel welcome and included,” he said.
“The ‘Towards an all abilities Queensland’ consultation paper will help direct future policies across five key areas of personal and community relationships, recreation and tourism, working and learning, key services, and leadership and contribution.
“By connecting with people from all corners of the state, we aim to find a shared vision on how we can make Queensland more inclusive and accessible.”
Tenders are due to close on 20 February 2017. More information is available at: www.communities.qld.gov.au/gateway/funding-grants/funding-available
