Summit Group Media Release: Time running out for an election focus on Affordable Housing
Heading into the last week of the federal election, a national coalition of housing and community groups has called for a stronger focus on housing affordability. Q Shelter participated in a national roundtable convened by the National Affordable Housing Summit group on Friday 16 July. The aim of the meeting was to garner feedback in relation to the implementation of the programs established over the last few years in an effort to boost the supply of affordable rental housing. The Social Housing Initiative of the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan was discussed and particular interest was shown regarding the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).

Federal Election Media: Welfare Quarantining "Simplistic and Unrealistic" in the face of housing costs
Chairperson of National Shelter Adrian Pisarski has responded to the Coalition’s proposal to extend welfare quarantining as “simplistic and unrealistic”.
“If people are struggling to pay the bills, the reasons are far more complex than financial mismanagement,” Mr Pisarski said.

Clear the FHOG: National Shelter Urges Changes to First Home Owners Grant
Chairperson of National Shelter, Adrian Pisarski, has strongly urged the Federal Government to make some drastic changes to the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) when it hands down its budget next week.
Remaining consistent with the National Shelter and ACOSS position over the last decade, Mr Pisarski said that the First Home Owners Grant is an inflationary product which stimulates demand without adding to supply. Read more »
