National news: National Regulatory System for Community Housing

In June 2011, Housing Ministers across Australia agreed to a blueprint for a National Regulatory System for community housing providers. The proposed system seeks to introduce nationally consistent regulatory arrangements to promote the growth of the community housing sector nationally.

Public consultation of the design elements of the new system, including the draft national legislation and the regulation impact statement has commenced. A final proposal will be presented to Housing Ministers in early 2012.

It is proposed that the new National Regulatory System will be in place by 2013.

Please find flyer here or see www.nrsch.gov.au for additional information.

Department news: housing support and assistance survey

The Department of Communities is seeking local feedback on ways in which Housing Service Centres in the Brisbane Region (based at Wynnum, Buranda, Inala, Fortitude Valley, and Chermside) can better assist or support those in housing need in the local community, as well as assist existing tenants to sustain their tenancies.

Target respondents include individuals and organisations that work with people in the community who are wishing to access affordable housing; or with those who are seeking assistance to manage their current circumstances, for which stable housing may be part of their solution.

The survey is available until the end of November: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XLFMC77
