ICHO Forum

Q Shelter is working with the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Human Services Coalition (QATSIHSC) to convene a future focused state-wide workshop of Indigenous Community Housing Organisations (ICHOs) in Brisbane on 28-29 January. The workshop will address the issues raised in our recent report on ICHOs and consider best practice and future opportunities for ICHOs. Participation in the workshop is limited to ICHOs but there will be a publically available communiqué produced from the event.

Department of Communities Common service agreement – your chance for input

Comment on the Department of Communities draft Common Service Agreement is open until 22 January 2010. The stated aims of the Common Service Agreement is standardising terms of funding, simplifying language, streamlining reporting and “providing clarity in government expectations across all service areas”.

There have been a number of consultation workshops to date, and the Department has indicated it will workshop some specific issues in January. Christmas mail out

The Christmas mail out featuring our 2009 Yearbook, 08/09 Annual Report, 2010 calendar and the National Shelter Policy Platform: Housing Australia Affordably was sent to members just before Christmas.

If you are a member and didn’t receive the package, please contact the office on (07) 3831 5900. If you would like to receive our mail outs, but are not a member or your membership has expired, please fill out a membership form which can be downloaded from http://www.qshelter.asn.au/membership-benefits-and-application-form and fax or post it back to us.

Also, if your organisation would like more desktop calendars, please give us a call and we can post them out.

Domestic violence empowerment workshops

Expressions of interest are being sought from individuals to attend the “Project Plan to Empowerment” 2010 series workshops to be facilitated by Australian author and DV survivor, Ricky Hunter on the subject of Domestic Violence.

The workshops are targeted at Health professionals including, counsellors, psychologists, social workers, family support workers, uni students, telephone counsellors, workers and advocates in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault.
