ICHO Forum
Q Shelter jointly facilitated with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Human Services Coalition a two day forum in Brisbane on the 28th and 29th January for Indigenous Community Housing Organisations (ICHOs) from around the State. Representatives from ICHOs from all over Queensland attended, along with representatives from Government. Jonathan Leitch from the Department of Communities was in attendance to answer questions and clarify concerns surrounding the transitioning of properties owned by ICHOs into the One Social Housing System. Representatives from a number of ICHOs detailed the successes of their work in assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders into housing, and the provision of much needed wrap around support. Justin Saunders and Adrian Pisarski spoke about National Indigenous Reform Agenda agreed to by COAG, National Partnership Agreements, and the ‘close the gap’ targets. In addition, Rhonda Phillips from AHURI presented some initial findings which have emerged out of a larger research project being undertaken currently on urban Indigenous housing in Canada. Strategies were discussed about moving forward with an aim to building the capacity of the sector to be able to address the significant disadvantage and marginalisation experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

AIHW Unit Record Data Collection - Feasibility Questionnaire
Driven by the current National Reforms, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (http://www.aihw.gov.au/) are being asked to provide more comprehensive annual reports on the Community Housing sector. In turn, the AIHW will need to collect comprehensive, high-quality data from Community Housing Providers in the future.
AIHW have commissioned a ‘feasibility study’ so they can better understand the costs and issues associated with improving data quality and coverage across the sector.
Members may have already been invited to respond to the “AIHW Unit Record Data Collection” feasibility questionnaire. If your organisation hasn’t received an invitation email but would like to participate, email a request to cho.survey@aihw.gov.au.
If you have any queries regarding this study please contact Kate Mallen at AIHW (Ph: 02 6244 1107, email: kate.mallen@aihw.gov.au ).
