Toowoomba Housing and Homelessness Forum Friday 16th April 2010

With so much happening across housing & homelessness Q Shelter & QCOSS are hosting an NGO forum to provide an update around developments these areas.

The forum will cover current and planned housing initiatives across Queensland, and outline Q Shelter’s newly released policy platform.

In the area of homelessness the Forum will look at:

•The White paper’s new approach to homelessness and how this might be implemented in Queensland.
•The Queensland National Partnership Agreement (NPA) Implementation plan.
•The Homelessness Service System Planning & Coordination Initiative (an initiative under the NPA plan).
•Developments Federally including the National Quality Standards Framework & Data Reform project.

The aim of the forum is to make sure everyone understands the different initiatives and what they might mean for services in the region.

In addition the forum will be particularly looking at the role of SAAP services in the new homelessness agenda.

Forum Details - The forum will be held on Friday 16 April from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm.

The venue for the Forum is the Toowoomba City Library, (Children’s Services Meeting Room), 27 Victoria St, Toowoomba.

Meeting aims:

•To get everyone up to speed with what’s happening around homelessness at the federal, state & local levels
•To discuss what these developments will mean in your local context and what the implications might be for your organisation.
•To discuss how organisations can best prepare for the changes ahead.

National Survey of Young Australians

Mission Australia has released its 2010 National Survey of Young Australians.
The survey is targeted at young people aged between 11 and 24 and needs to be completed by Friday July 2.

QCOSS Forums 2010

Each year QCOSS engages its members and stakeholders in a number of policy, advocacy and collaboration forums across the state as part of its ongoing commitment to represent the views of the sector.

The free half-day forums will give you and your organisation:

• the opportunity to comment on social issues faced by your community and provide recommendations on how to best address them
•a chance to provide input into QCOSS’s future policy positions, including the 2011-12 Budget Submission
•an invaluable opportunity to network with other people and organisations within your region and
•advice on increasing advocacy and collaboration within the sector.

An innovative forum on affordable housing alternatives in Aged care is being held in Melbourne on May 12th.
