Queensland Shelter E-bulletin –25th September
Queensland NRAS Forum
Queensland Shelter in conjunction with the National Affordable Housing Summit group today hosted a forum looking at the progress to date of the National Rental Affordability Scheme.
In the absence of Julian Disney, the forum was convened by Adrian Pisarski with speakers including Sue Ham from FAHCSIA, Robn Zakharov and Kevin Bottle from the Department of Communities, Mike Myers from Queensland Affordable Housing Consortium and Eddie Bourke from CHFA.
Information received from the forum will feed into Queensland Shelter’s response to the NRAS Post Implementation Review.
Many thanks to everyone who came to the conference and provided feedback on NRAS so far.

ICHO forums
Queensland Shelter will be facilitating two ICHOs Forums on the 16th and 23rd October, 2009 in Cairns and Townsville respectively. The feature of both forums will be the attendance of the Minister, The Hon. Karen Struthers. We encourage ICHOs to attend to hear the Minister respond to the many issues raised by ICHO delegates. The Department of Communities is also making funds available for two delegates to attend the forums; and for QShelter to recover our costs as facilitators of the forums. These two forums will be attended by delegates from Services throughout Queensland, except the SEQ region – who have already met with the Minister twice this year.
Part of the agenda, is to get the ICHOs to a position of being well informed and to have a clear understanding of the implications of the proposed OSHS benefits and issues prior to the deadline for deciding whether to become registered providers in Qld. To date, just under 20% of ICHOs have signed on to be registered providers.
