SHAQ: Introduction and dates
Recent capital investment in the community housing sector along with Commonwealth Government encouragement for this sector to grow requires a housing system that will enable and support this growth. Queensland Shelter aims to investigate how to create this policy environment and will look at the affordable housing sector as a whole along with its intersection with the homelessness sector and the One Social Housing System.
This project will investigate the many areas that are involved in this process from scale and size of providers, title issues, portfolio management, rent setting policies and organisation viability to what mechanisms are required to enable vulnerable people to be housed in affordable housing. In addition, the project will also explore the role of standards, accreditation and regulation in viability and good housing outcomes, and funding arrangements which may be useful in achieving this.
We will be holding 5 forums across Queensland on the dates listed below. Whilst we will endeavour to keep the forums on these dates we are still finalising venues in Townsville and Roma and depending on their availability, the dates for these two locations may be subject to change. We will confirm these as soon as possible.
· Townsville - Tuesday 5 October 2010 (to be confirmed)
· Gladstone - Tuesday 12 October 2010
· Toowoomba - Tuesday 19 October 2010
· Brisbane - Tuesday 26 October 2010
· Roma - Thursday 28 October 2010 (to be confirmed)
We encourage organisations and individuals across Queensland to be a part of this process and provide input on a range of issues. We understand that not everyone who wishes to attend will be able to make it to these forums and therefore, we will be providing a range of mechanisms for input, including an online survey and telephone interviews.
To register your attendance at one of the forums listed above, please fill out the registration form which will be up on the Queensland Shelter website next week. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Noelle Hudson or one of the policy officers at Queensland Shelter on 3831 5900.
