Latest ABS homeless methodology released
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released its latest methodology on counting the homeless.
In a discussion paper released yesterday (attached), the bureau said it had identified an ''apparent overcount'' of the existing homeless population.
ABS proposes that a better estimate of homelessness in Australia, derived from the 2006 census, is 63,472 rather than the nearly 105,000 quoted in the federal government's white paper on homelessness published in December 2008.
