Media Release 25/01/2012: Housing peak welcomes LNP affordable housing promise
Queensland Shelter welcomes the LNP’s commitment to affordability, and is keen to see the real detail of the policy.
Campbell Newman revealed his Property and Construction Strategy yesterday at a breakfast hosted by the Property Council.
The Strategy includes making affordable housing a goal of all planning schemes.
Queensland Shelter’s Executive Officer, Adrian Pisarski, is pleased that housing is a priority for the LNP, however urges they include a commitment to rental affordability in the strategy.
“Considering the state of Queensland’s housing crisis, it is great the LNP is prioritising affordability,” Mr Pisarski said.
“However this crisis is not only about private land ownership: renters across the State are some of the worse affected by declining affordability”.
“We need to invest in affordable rental properties if the cost of living is going to become more sustainable for all Queenslanders”.
In the upcoming weeks Queensland Shelter will be hosting events to focus on these issues.
We invite Mr Newman and the LNP to release more detail of the strategy prior to the Election.
