Vale William Small

Queensland Shelter is saddened to inform members that our Head of Treasury, Mr William Small, passed away this morning after a prolonged battle with illness over the last year. Despite his declining health, we were all shocked, because William’s demeanour to the end remained steadfastly positive, consistent to his personality and we were all convinced he would win any battle he engaged.
The Board, staff and members offer our condolences and sympathy to William’s family and friends and we remember him for the energy, drive and commitment he brought to everything he took on in life. William was particularly proud of his son Tristan who was a constant source of his attention. William, or HOT as he liked to be known, was a positive force and a force for the positive.
William lived a life in the fast lane of high finance and held senior management positions in private and public companies investing in large residential real estate development and every kind of residential property.
Those dedicated experiences also provided William with an acute awareness of the problems we face in housing.
William was proud to be a very active Head of Treasury at Queensland Shelter from 2006, a member since 2005 and was also:
- A Trustee for the Foundation Shareholders of Gold Coast Housing Company Ltd.
- A Community Housing Tenant Representative of the Community Housing Standards and Accreditation Council (2008), and;
- Involved in the establishment of the first Brotherhood of St Lawrence op-shop when he was 17.
William will be sadly missed and proudly remembered.
