Progress on the project

Consultation with the SAAP sector around the implementation of the Strategy
Throughout June and July 2008 consultation was undertaken with SAAP service providers across the state around the preferred networking mechanisms for the strategy in each region and appropriate governance arrangements for the network. The consultation findings and recommendations for implementing the strategy in each region have been compiled into a consultation report. To download the report click here.

Establishment of a State-wide Project Reference Group
 From the consultation feedback, there was agreement that the Reference Group have the following composition:
·         One representative from each of the following regions/networks: Far North Queensland, North Queensland, Mt Isa and the Gulf, Mackay / Whitsunday, Rockhampton, Central and South West Queensland, Wide Bay / Burnett, Darling Downs, Ipswich / Logan, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane.
·         One representative from each of the following target groups: Families, Women, Young People, Domestic Violence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and People Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds.  A call for nominations for regional reference group representatives was issued in early September.


To date the following regional representatives have been nominated:

  • Townsville: Penny Jansen (Sharehouse Youth Accommodation)
  • Mackay – Kathy Cave (Lowanna House)
  • Rockhampton:  Lyn Anderson (Banana Shire Emergency Accommodation &
Support Centre)
  • Central West – Susan Thornhill (Anglicare Central Queensland)
  • Moreton: Colleen Smith (Goodna Youth Services)
  • Gold Coast: Liz Fritz (Blair Athol)
In October a call for expressions of interest for the Women’s, Families, Domestic Violence and Youth target group representatives was issued. The following target group representatives have been nominated: 
  • Women: Carol Birrell (Spiritus - Brisbane)
  • Families: Briannon Stevens (Homelessness Services, Micah - Brisbane)
  • Domestic Violence: Cathy Crawford (North Queensland Combined Women’s Services - Townsville) with Lindy Edwards (Sera’s Shelter - Townsville) to act as proxy.
  • Youth: Maria Leebeek (Queensland Youth Housing Coalition)
 A call for expressions of interest for the Indigenous and Culturally and Linguistically diverse target groups was issued in November. Expressions of Interest received will be considered in February at the first Reference Group meeting for 2009. 

Networking Activities

Networking activities under the strategy commenced in July 2008 and have included electronic communication, telelinking, and face to face meetings with networks across the state. Additionally a  fortnightly SAAP E-News Bulletin is circulated to provide updates on the project and recent developments at the State and Federal levels.
