Ending Homelessness: A Vision and a Plan Conference

The Homelessness White Paper – The Road Home, signals a new era in responding to homelessness.


The Conference “Ending Homelessness: A Vision and a Plan” will examine how community services will meet the challenges and take advantage of opportunities presented by the Federal Government’s new approach to homelessness articulated in the Homelessness White Paper.
 In addition to looking at the bigger picture developments in homelessness, the Conference will also focus firmly on developing practice – looking at best practice and innovative approaches across a range of practice issues.  

Focus topics include:
  • How the sector can meet the challenges of the new homelessness agenda
  • Community planning to end homelessness and developing integrated homelessness service delivery systems
  • Addressing chronic homelessness
  • Addressing homelessness in rural & remote areas.
  • Best practice in engaging with Indigenous clients
  • Developing a shared understanding of case management
  • Prevention and early intervention approaches.
  • Housing with support – different models for different circumstances.
  • Addressing the needs of different client groups including: families, women, young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  Invited speakers and workshop facilitators include:
  • The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for Housing, and for the Status of Women
  • The Hon Karen Struthers, Minister for Community Services and Housing and Minister for Women
  • Nan Roman - US National Alliance to End Homelessness
The 2009 SAAP Conference is targeted at all services who have an interest in responding to homelessness and how the Federal Government’s new approach to homelessness will be implemented in Queensland.
