Branch History

The Far North Queensland Branch, operating alongside the Cairns Housing Network, has been active since the early 1990's and applied to become a branch of Queensland Shelter in 1993.  Initially, resourcing was provided through the CSHA Consultation Project and has been supported by a range of service providers.   Read more »

October 2008

The Cairns Homelessness Hub continues to play a central role in coordinating consensus amongst area services taking part in the Responding to Rough Sleeping Homelessness Regional Task Force. The task force, which was formed in late 2007 to address mayoral concerns about Indigenous rough sleepers beside Cairns creeks, now includes eight mayors from Cape York communities who recently toured the area with Department of Communities and Police representatives.  Read more »

 Cairns Housing Network delegate Sally Watson has found herself on the newly established “Responding to Rough Sleeping Homelessness in Cairns Task Force” which aims to address the politically difficult issues of rough sleeping, Indigenous homelessness and substance abuse. Read more »
